Even with increases in diesel and political uncertainties, Road Cargo Transport (TRC), which represents 65% of everything transported across the country, closed 2022 with a growth of 27% in freight volume compared to 2021. The numbers are from the 9th edition of the Fretebras report.

The study shows that despite the economic situation, the industrialized products, civil construction and agribusiness sectors also drove Fretebras' business. During the period, the platform handled R$ 103 billion, with a total of 10 million freight items transported.
For 2023, the expectation is that growth will continue: “We expect a considerable increase in the volume of freight shipped and, naturally, an even greater demand for digital solutions to assist in hiring drivers like Fretebras offers”, says Bruno Hacad, Director of Operations, from Fretebras.
Ranking
The study highlights the Central-West region, which had the largest positive change in freight volume, 55.6%, thanks to agribusiness. Last year, the region recorded a higher number of 16% in grain production when compared to the 2020/21 harvest, according to Conab.
All other regions also showed growth. The ranking is followed by Southeast (28.6%), North (20.4%), South (17.9%), and Northeast (12.1%).
The Central-West also makes up the states with the highest growth in freight volume at Fretebras: Distrito Federal, Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul.
the country's capital, construction freight represented 65% of freight, with cement being the most transported product, originating in the Federal District. The growth of both on the platform, comparing 2022 against 2021, is more than 300%.
The state of Goiás, in turn, had the largest representation in the volume of freight in the agribusiness category: around 50% of the total in 2022. Industrialized products also stood out, driven by “food”, the most transported product originating in Goiás.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, agricultural production in 2022 exceeded that recorded in the 2021 harvest by around 14%. On the Fretebras platform, agribusiness represented 55% of freight in the state in 2022. Of these, 60% were made up of corn, followed by soybeans , with 15% of freight.
“We see that the Central-West region was the highlight of this edition of the Fretebras report. Agriculture in 2022 was completely driven by the region that increased its soybean and corn production, while the South region suffered at the beginning of the year with droughts”, adds Hacad.
Among the most representative states in freight volume are: SP, MG, PR, RS and GO. Highlights include MG and GO, which increased by 2.1 pp and 1.6 pp, respectively. Meanwhile, SP and PR recorded a drop of around 1.5 pp
