In new projections on Brazilian chicken meat production trends, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) indicates a volume close to 13.450 million tons for this year. And this, if achieved, will mean an increase of just over 2%. But compared to what was produced two years ago, in 2015.
In relation to what was produced last year, the increase could exceed 4%. Note, however, that the USDA reduced the originally forecast production by more than 5% and that (preliminary data) it ended up being 12.910 million tons, almost 2% less than in 2015.
Originally estimated (October 2016) at 14.080 million tons, production forecast for 2017 was also corrected downwards, being reduced by 4.5%. As for exports, although suffering a reduction in relation to the initial forecast (-2.39%), the USDA projects an expansion of 10% in relation to the volume reached in 2016. Note, in this case, that the numbers do not include volumes related to feet/paws of chicken. Hence the volume significantly lower than that actually recorded (in 2016, 90% of the total indicated by SECEX/MDIC – 4.308 million/t).
Also note that there is some inconsistency regarding last year's production (preliminary data). Because while the number of heads slaughtered increased by 1,831 TP3T (from 6,295 billion in 2015 to 6,410 billion in 2016), the resulting volume of meat decreased by 1,801 TP3T (from 13,146 million/t to 12,910 million/t). And this is repeated, in a way, in the production forecast for 2017. In relation to the first forecast, while the number of heads slaughtered drops by just 0.37%, the volume of meat from there falls by 4.55%.
