Even though internal wheat prices are fluctuating little throughout December, in some regions of the South of the country monitored by Cepea, the average of this month's partial in the lot market (negotiation between companies) is the lowest, in real terms, of the entire Cepea historical series, starting in 2002 – the values were deflated by the IGP-DI of November/16.
According to researchers, this scenario is linked, especially, to the record harvest this season and the greater volume of wheat imported this year. With the end of the year festivities approaching, wheat sales are practically at a standstill in the Brazilian spot market. Both buyers and sellers are uninterested in negotiating, due to logistical difficulties and adjustments to tax issues. Furthermore, many are paying attention to government auctions.
