Consulting firm StoneX estimated on Wednesday that the production of the cotton 24/25 in Brazil will reach a record 3.82 million tons of lint, which represents an increase of 5.4% compared to the previous season. The expansion of the planted area mainly drove this growth.
According to StoneX, an increase in planted area of approximately 128 thousand hectares (+6.4%) is expected, with emphasis on Mato Grosso, the largest producer of cotton of the country, which should expand 112 thousand hectares (+7.6%). However, the consultancy warned that it will be necessary to monitor productivity as the harvest develops.
StoneX revised the planted area in MS by 50 thousand hectares for the 2023/24 harvest, estimating a production of 3.62 million tons of fiber.
Cotton exports forecast for the 2023/24 crop remain unchanged at 2.9 million tons, while the 2024/25 crop projects shipments close to 2.8 million tons, according to the consultancy.
Brazil is currently the world's largest cotton exporter. However, StoneX said it may revise shipment volumes throughout the cycle, as factors such as cotton availability in other exporting countries, demand from importing mills and productivity in Brazil will influence final figures.
