Family farming unions and cooperatives in conjunction with industrial sector associations: Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (ABIOVE), Association of Biofuel Producers of Brazil (APROBIO) and Brazilian Union of Biodiesel and Biokerosene (UBRABIO) sign the “Letter from Salvador to the Federal Government authorities” taking a stand against the import of biodiesel during the 14th Bahian Family Agriculture and Solidarity Economy Fair, held in Salvador (BA), on Friday (14) .
Unanimously, the document reinforces “the need to revoke the CNPE resolution that authorizes, in a precarious manner, the import of biodiesel for use in the mandatory mixture with diesel oil in the country”.

The union entities representing family farming, the associations and cooperatives of family farming and the associations of biodiesel producers present at the 14th Baiana Family Farming and Solidarity Economy Fair (Salvador, on 14/12/2023), unanimously expressed, as follows such as, the need to revoke the CNPE resolution that precariously authorizes the import of biodiesel for use in the mandatory mixture with diesel oil in the country.
Plead for the revocation of biodiesel imports
Failure to revoke this measure is an imminent threat to the participation of thousands of family farmers in this production chain, to the crushing of soybeans in Brazil (therefore, the supply of bran), to the generation of jobs and income, and directly compromises the country's regional development. .
The inclusion of imported biodiesel in the national market contradicts the National Biodiesel Production and Use Program (PNPB). This program, established in 2005, is crucial for the sustainable expansion of biodiesel in the national energy matrix, addressing economic, social and environmental aspects. The imported product can arrive in Brazil with export subsidies. However, it would not meet the established bases, such as integration into family farming and control of deforestation.
This measure contradicts the recent command of the Federal Government. However, CNPE resolution No. 03, of March 20, 2023, established the gradual increase in the mixture of biodiesel and diesel. This is conditioned on companies directing their efforts towards greater participation in family farming in the North, Northeast and Semi-Arid region. Thus, this decision sends a clear message that biodiesel must contribute to food security and the reduction of regional inequalities.
The signatory entities seek revocation. The request is directed to the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE). At the same time, the request refers to the measure that authorized the import of biodiesel. The decision on the revocation will be taken at the next CNPE meeting, scheduled for December.
