On Monday (10/17), the Serbian government banned all natural gas exports until the end of October, with the aim of guaranteeing supply to the domestic market.
Strongly dependent on Russian commodities, Serbia has already opened talks with Azerbaijan to start importing natural gas next summer.
In February, even before the start of the war in Eastern Europe and sanctions against Russia, Serbia had already started construction of a 109 km gas pipeline to transport gas from Bulgaria. The work should be completed in September 2023.
