According to MAPA minister, Carlos Fávaro, in a statement to Valor Econômico, China should not demand a Brazilian delegation in China for further discussions on the matter.

Long awaited by the livestock sector, the meeting between the governments of Brazil and China to deal with the atypical case of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE, or mad cow disease), took place on Tuesday night (7). According to information from Valor Econômico, the leader of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), Carlos Fávaro, points out that there are no more pending issues, and that the traceability of the case, detected on February 22 in Marabá, Pará, was carried out, such as screening the father, mother and siblings of the animal that fell ill, if any of them showed any symptoms of the disease.

The minister also told the media outlet that it is up to China to complete its analyzes regarding the imbroglio, and that he hopes it will be done as quickly as possible so that shipments of Brazilian beef to the Asian giant can be resumed.

There was even a suggestion by Fávaro that Roberto Perosa, secretary of International Relations, and Carlos Goulart], secretary of Agricultural Defense, go in a delegation to China for further negotiations, but the minister pointed out to Valor Econômico that the government of the Asian giant signaled that there was no need, and that they would be satisfied with how the process was conducted.

It is also worth remembering that the scientific committee of the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO) reported that Brazil continues to have an insignificant risk status for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE). Furthermore, the Organization reported that it has closed investigations into the atypical case that was reported in the state of Pará in February.
