In an interview with Hora H do Agro, on Jovem Pan News, the Minister of Agriculture, Marcos Montes, announced the opening of the pig market to the Dominican Republic. “Everything is scheduled for the last week of August to sign the protocol, mainly for pork. Pork was very important for Brazil, as we know that pig producers lived and are still living in a very delicate moment, so we focused more on this situation”, pointed out Marcos Montes. The minister's expectation is that the signing of the protocol will take place in the last week of August. “On the 27th or 28th we are going to the Dominican Republic to sign this protocol for opening the market, which we are very happy about,” said the minister. “Expectations are good, as it is a major destination for tourists from all over the world. As for volumes, it is not yet possible to predict, as it will depend on the companies' qualifications. It is always good to open markets, especially for pigs, which are in market recovery”, said Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA. Itaú BBA also evaluates the opening of the market for pork as positive. “I have the impression that this market is small, but it is good news. I think the sector is heading towards improvement, but there is still a lot of supply. I believe in a still difficult second half of the year”, analyzes Cesar Castro Alves, Agro Itaú BBA consultant. The opening and expansion of markets for agriculture has been a hallmark of the current management of the Ministry of Agriculture. A successful initiative that has already culminated in 200 open markets for products.
