Renewal of the Brazilian Precision Agriculture Commission strengthens the sector

Ministry of Agriculture publishes ordinance updating the body's members and institutions and appointing new president

The new ordinance from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) that updates members and institutions that make up the Brazilian Precision Agriculture Commission (CBAP), as well as appointing a new president, represents an appreciation of the body that was created with the objective to strengthen actions between the areas of research, teaching and development of technologies aimed at the sector. Ordinance number 820 was published on April 6th in the Official Gazette of the Union by the Minister of Agriculture, Blairo Maggi. The new president who will hold the position for two years, replacing professor José Paulo Molin, is engineer Marcio Albuquerque, who represents the Brazilian Association of the Electrical and Electronic Industry (Abinee) on the Commission.

The coordinator of the Commission and representative of the Ministry in the body, agricultural engineer Fabrício Juntolli, states that this renewal strengthens the importance given to the Precision Agriculture sector for the competitiveness and sustainability of agribusiness. It also highlights that with the new ordinance, CBAP incorporates the Brazilian Association of Precision Agriculture (AsBraAP) and the Brazilian Association of Precision Agriculture Service Providers (ABPSAP). “It is worth highlighting that these Associations were created within the scope of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Brazilian Precision Agriculture Commission, being fundamental and strategic for the organization of the sector and its representation both in Brazil and abroad”, he emphasizes.

According to the new president of CBAP, the Commission was the first formal organization of the precision agriculture sector in the country and has been able to support the structuring of other forms of organization, such as the strengthening of the Brazilian Congress of Precision Agriculture (ConBAP) and the foundation from AsBraAP and ABPSAP. He states that the challenges to make precision agriculture continue to grow in Brazil are many, but with organization it has already been possible to take some important steps. “The new prestige that the Ministry has given to CBAP will help accelerate the sector’s achievements. The challenges ahead are being able to officially map the levels of technology adoption in the country, continue supporting the training of qualified personnel to work with precision agriculture, increase the dissemination of the topic among all producers and be connected with advances in the topic in the world,” notes Albuquerque.
