Brazilian exports totaled 1.10 million tons of corn in October this year, according to the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services. The daily average was 55.09 thousand tons. The volume shipped decreased by 60.3% compared to September this year and was 79.1% lower than that recorded in the same period last year.
The greater competitiveness with North American corn in the 2016/2017 season affected Brazilian exports. For comparison, in the United States a ton of grain is quoted at US$136.00, compared to US$172.91 per ton of corn shipped by Brazil.
The decline in exports in the second half of the year is one of the factors reducing cereal prices in the Brazilian market. In the Campinas-SP region, according to a survey by Scot Consultoria, a 60-kilo bag is priced at R$39.00, for immediate delivery, without shipping, compared to deals of up to R$43.00 per bag in the first weeks of October.
