“Thanks to credit I was able to buy equipment that made my life easier and improved my production.” This is the report of farmer Mirian Rozane Britto da Costa, 53 years old, beneficiary of the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf), who is already reaping the fruits of the investment. It was with the support of the Program that Mirian was able to purchase machinery, a truck and inputs that gave independence to production and structured the family's agribusiness, Figueira do Prado, in São Lourenço do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul.
Mirian achieved agility, increased her plantation and, consequently, her dreams. She and her son have been investing in the sector since 2000 and the list of products only grows: creamy sweets, known in the region as Schimiers, traditional and typical fruit juices from the region, such as butiá, pineapple and araçá. “Now I can move around and no longer depend on anyone to take my products wherever I want. I have my independence to deliver school meals and other orders”, says the farmer.

Expansion
With production going well, getting bigger every day, Mirian looked for other ways to get the food out. One of them was the National School Food Program (Pnae). Figueira do Prado is responsible for offering sweets and juices to five municipal and state schools in the municipality of São Lourenço do Sul. All products also have the Family Farming Participation Identification Seal (Sipaf). “Before, it was impossible to produce without the use of poisons. Today that changed. Our entire structure has improved and, now, we are able to prioritize organic products”, he celebrates.
