With the aim of creating an alliance between soy producers in Mercosur, the Association of Soy and Corn Producers of Mato Grosso (Aprosoja-MT) and the Brazilian Association of Soy Producers (Aprosoja Brasil) met with the associations CREA and AAPRESID of Argentina and with the APS of Paraguay. The meeting took place this Thursday (01.08), in Buenos Aires.
Representing Aprosoja Mato Grosso, the president, Antonio Galvan, and the executive director, Wellington Andrade, participated in this first discussion. Aprosoja Brasil was attended by the president, Bartolomeu Braz, and the executive director, Fabrício Rosa. Senator Luiz Carlos Heinze (PP-RS), and the agricultural attaché of the Brazilian Embassy in Argentina, Priscila Moser, also participated in the meeting.
Currently, Mercosur is responsible for the production of 52% of global soybeans and exports more than 63% of all production. Given the high numbers and importance of producers in South America, the associations saw fit to get together to discuss some points, such as: defining positions in relation to the use of pesticides and MRLs; positioning towards multinationals on the need for new biotechnologies being developed in the region for soybean cultivation; the definition of a single royalty collection model and values for the block; the unification of harvest and trade information with the same credibility as the USDA and structuring of trade through a South American Exchange.
The associations will discuss the project internally so that there will be a new meeting to continue the implementation of the alliance.
