Corn production in this new 2021/22 harvest is expected to reach 113.99 million tons in Brazil, according to the first production estimate from AgResource Brasil, the Brazilian branch of the American company AgResource Company. If the estimate is confirmed, the increase would be 36.4% compared to the 83.58 million tons in the 20/21 harvest.
According to the company's director, Raphael Mandarino, the estimate is a realistic scenario, considering that the 21/22 season is expected to be marked by the La Niña phenomenon: “We also work with two other scenarios: the first is a production total corn at 124 million tons, where Brazil would have an ideal planting window and La Niña would lose strength, not affecting the harvest. The second scenario is more pessimistic, taking into account more severe impacts from La Niña, which could reduce production to 107 million tons.”

According to AgResource Brasil's projection, the area for the total harvest was indicated at 20.52 million tons, an increase of 3.5% compared to 19.83 million tons in the previous cycle. Productivity is expected to increase by 31.8%, rising from 70.2 bags/hectare last season to 92.5 bags/hectare.
“The first corn harvest in Brazil is expected to reach 25.96 million tons and the planted area is expected to reach 4.48 million hectares. The second harvest is estimated by AgResource at 87.01 million tons and the area at 15.43 million hectares. For the third harvest, AgResource Brasil projects a production of 1.01 million tons and a sown area of 594.2 thousand hectares”, concludes the consultancy.
