Wheat price must remain attractive to sellers

The national wheat harvest reached record production in 2021, despite adverse weather conditions during the development of the crop. And, despite the greater availability of wheat on the domestic market, imports continued to rise in the second half of last year, and this context should continue to be seen in 2022. According to Cepea researchers, Brazil is still dependent on cereal imports to supply the domestic market, trading mainly with Argentina.

According to data from the Cepea newsletter, exports are also expected to be higher in 2022, given the lower global supply and high external prices. As expectations indicate a high dollar in 2022, imports are likely to remain more expensive and domestic prices may remain at high levels. Evaluating field activities, last season, Rio Grande do Sul surpassed the wheat production of Paraná, a state that normally has the national leadership. In relation to the next national wheat harvest, the expectation is that producers will continue to choose to increase the area with the cereal, as occurred in the previous season, influenced by the high prices currently paid in the market, even with the higher production cost.
