Minister Tereza Cristina (Agriculture, Livestock and Supply) said she is confident that the 2019/2020 Harvest Plan will be launched this week. Tereza Cristina highlighted that on Tuesday and Wednesday the National Congress will analyze and vote on the supplementary credit project (PLN 4/19), which includes R$10 billion in resources to equalize the plan's financing.
According to the minister, the plan planned for 2019/2020 will offer new tools for access to credit for medium and large producers. “Small farmers will be absolutely protected,” she said.
Tereza Cristina once again defended a permanent model so that farmers have predictability when taking out financing for costs and investments, given that preparation for cultivation begins at least six months in advance.
At the opening of One Agro, the minister highlighted the increase in Brazilian agricultural productivity combined with sustainability. According to Tereza Cristina, in recent years, national production has grown by 386%, with an increase of only 33% in the cultivated area. The minister asked for everyone's collaboration in the fight against misinformation about agribusiness, especially on social media.
“I don’t understand why we should tarnish the image of a sector that produces, that provides employment and that increasingly uses more technology and is more concerned with sustainability,” he said.
