Brazilian state oil company Petrobras says it is ready to produce renewable diesel from soybeans or other edible oils on a commercial scale as soon as it gets regulatory approval, the company said. Reuters on August 1st.
The company will expand its investments in the sector following approval from Brazil's oil regulator ANP Petrobras, said the company's refining director Anelise Lara.
Petrobras refined 2 million liters of soybean oil at one of its southern refineries, resulting in 40 million liters of renewable diesel, the company said. Reuters .

The initiative is part of Petrobras' climate strategy, which includes the goal of reducing carbon intensity in the refining segment by 16% over the next five years.
Soy was currently the raw material for more than 70% of biodiesel produced in Brazil and the introduction of a new type of fuel that could affect soy demand was controversial in the sector, said the Reuters .
Renewable diesel contained no contaminants, unlike biodiesel, according to Lara. However, industry group Abiove, which represents biofuel producers, disagreed, saying biodiesel no longer contained contaminants.
