The first edition of PalmaCon, held in Belém (PA) on October 23 and 24, brought together experts and companies from the palm oil sector to discuss sustainability, market potential and the use of palm in the industry. The event highlighted the socioeconomic impact of the crop for local farmers and was organized by Abrapalma, in a context where Pará leads national production.

Representing Aboissa, Michel Aboissa presented a comprehensive analysis of the palm oil market, highlighting Brazil’s strategic importance in the sector. Michel stated that the country has great potential for sustainable growth, especially in degraded areas suitable for expanding production. During the presentation, he highlighted the positive economic impact of palm oil for local communities, especially by supporting small producers and fostering family farming.

Challenges and opportunities for the palm oil sector

Michel also addressed the challenges currently facing the sector. Climate variability, aggravated by the prolonged drought since the fourth quarter of 2023, has negatively affected plantations. In addition, strong competition from other oilseeds, which have achieved record harvests, and the growing preference for more economical oil blends are pressure points for the palm industry. These factors directly impact demand in the domestic and international markets, making it essential to adapt market strategies.

The first edition of PalmaCon reinforces Pará’s crucial role in the national production of palm oil, accounting for 85% of Brazil’s production. The state has ideal climatic and geographic conditions, as well as degraded areas mapped for sustainable palm cultivation. These factors, together with the commitment to low-impact practices and support for family farming, position Pará as a development engine in the sector. PalmaCon therefore serves as a platform for sharing innovations. The event promotes the advancement of palm oil as a renewable and cost-effective alternative for sectors such as food and fuel. In this way, it aligns Brazil with global demands for sustainable energy.
