At the beginning of the year, they continued, however, to affect the performance of total Brazilian beef exports (fresh + processed). In October, revenue for the month fell from US$ 1.223 billion in 2022 to US$ 982.6 million in 2023, a drop of 20%. However, movement in the month remained practically stable: in 2022, 234,063 tons were exported and, then, in October 2023, they reached 240,946 tons (+2.94%).
The information comes from the Brazilian Association of Refrigerators (Abrafrigo), which compiled the data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex), from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC). According to the entity, in the year to date, revenue fell by 23% until October. In 2022, the accumulated until October recorded revenue of US$ 11.37 billion. In 2023, fall to US$ 8.76 billion. In volume, a slight growth below 1%. So far, 1,998,893 tons have been moved this year and, thus, in 2022, movement reached 1,994,804 tons.
For Abrafrigo, the big problem with exports in 2023 is the prices paid for Brazilian products by importers. In October 2022, average Brazilian beef prices were US$$5,228 per ton. In October 2023, there was a drop to US$ 4,078 per ton. Year to date, the average price for 2022 was US$ 5,727 per ton. In 2023, the value fell to US$ 4,381. However, even in the face of these challenges, it is essential to closely monitor developments in this scenario, as they can significantly impact the sector in the medium and long term.
China continues to be the main importer of Brazilian cattle in the year to date, accounting for 49% of Brazilian sales.
In 2002, the country represented 53.1% of the total exported in the period. Until October, the China was responsible for revenue of US$ 4.723 billion, which represented a drop of 32.3% in foreign exchange collection. Last year, until October, revenue was US$ 6.979 billion. Average prices fell from US$ 6,621 per tonne in 2022 to US$ 4,819 this year. In volume there was also a drop of 7%, from 1,054,088 tons in 2022 to 980,016 tons in 2023.
The United States remains the second largest importer of Brazilian beef, rising from a share of 8% in total in 2022 to 11.8% by October 2023. Movement grew by 49.1%, from 158,260 tons in 2022 to 235,903 tons in 2023. However, revenue fell by 0.9%, as a result of the reduction in product prices.
Chile is the third largest importer, moving 82,314 tons in 2023 against 63,927 tons in 2022 (+ 28.8%). Revenue went from US$ 322 million last year to US$ 400 million this year (+24%).
Hong Kong reached fourth position, importing 82,350 tonnes in the year to October 2002 and 94,857 tonnes in 2023 (+15%). However, revenue fell by 0.1%, from US$ 290 million to US$ 289 million. However, 74 countries increased their imports until October, while another 96 reduced their purchases.
