DIPOA is also responsible for controlling the compliance of fish imported into Brazil.
The Department of Inspection of Products of Animal Origin (DIPOA) carried out Operation DNA 2022 to detect possible fraud, substitution of a lower value than declared on the label. Sample collection was carried out in 18 states and the Federal District.

In total, 80 Federal Agricultural Tax Auditors and Sanitary and Industrial Inspection Agents for Products of Animal Origin from the Ministry of Agriculture participated in the inspections. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, fraudulent establishments normally use similar species, but at a lower cost.
The inspection collected samples of sole, hake, yellow hake, surubim, among other fish. In total, 122 samples of different species of fish were analyzed, from establishments under the Federal Inspection Service (SIF) and foreigners. Of the 105 samples originating from an establishment under SIF, 103 gave results within the standards and only two presented results outside the standards.
