A proposal to make Afghanistan the “golden gateway” for Malaysian palm oil in Central Asia was discussed by representatives of both countries, it said. o The Edge Markets on April 10th.
Afghanistan's ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Mohib Rahman Spingar, discussed the possibility with Malaysia's Ministry of Plantation and Commodity Industries (MPIC) minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali, according to the report.
Khairuddin said Afghanistan also welcomed the proposal to import more palm oil from Malaysia, with both parties agreeing to explore the potential expansion of Malaysia's direct palm oil exports to the country, which currently stands at 75,000-150,000 tons/year.
“The understanding opens a new chapter for Malaysian palm oil to be traded to Central Asia with Afghanistan as 'the golden gateway' to other countries such as Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and even Kazakhstan and others countries through the two ports of Chabahar in Iran,” Khairuddin was quoted as saying in a statement.
Both parties agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the proposal in the near future, he wrote The Edge Markets.
