The Ministry of Infrastructure stated again today (20) that there is no recommendation from the federal government to close the operation of airports and ports.
In recent days, rumors have increased about the closure of airports to contain the new coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
According to the ministry, the only measure taken in the field of transport is the suspension of international road passenger transport.
“There is currently no recommendation to close airports; In the road sector, the only suspension measure is for international passenger transport”, said the ministry.
Due to rumors, different regulatory agencies expressed their opinion on the issue. Yesterday (19), the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) published a clarification on the issue, stating that the decision on airport closure is the responsibility of the Union, and that There is currently no recommendation in this regard.
“It is also worth clarifying that the closure of an airport is not a course of action recommended by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) at this time and could irresponsibly harm the movement of people, health professionals, vaccines, organs for transplantation and even inputs for medicines for Brazilian states”, says the Anac note.
Ports
The National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq) also said today (20) that there is no decision to close ports in the country and that public ports (including delegated ones), private ports and other port facilities, as well as waterway transport activities interstate and international, remain in operation in the country.
The agency said it ordered companies to comply with measures to contain the spread of the new coronavirus and that the closure of ports is also not recommended by Anvisa.
“The complete suspension of this service could harm access to medical care, the movement of health professionals, the supply of vaccines, inputs and medicines to Brazilian states,” said Antaq.
Road transport
Regarding land transport, the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) said that there is no determination to close borders between States as a reaction measure to the new Coronavirus pandemic and that interstate passenger transport continues to operate. The exception is for international transport.
“Due to the contingency that the country is going through, the agency made it more flexible to reduce the frequency of schedules, and only suspended international passenger transport, in addition to determining that passenger transport companies follow the established protocol for cleaning vehicles.”
