In soybean land, walnut planting project receives financing

Soy and corn dominate the scene at Expodireto, but crops that stand out as production bets gained space in the first credit releases at the start of the event. This was the case of the Brasil Paralelo Trinta project, which will have R$ 870 thousand to implement another 54 hectares of pecan trees in Encruzilhada do Sul. At the BRDE stand, in Parque da Cotrijal, project partners Breno Murer Zaffari and João Marcelino Antônio Fioravanso informed that the resource is part of a total contribution of R$ 5 million on 102 hectares, of which 48 are already being cultivated.

According to the duo, the project began in 2015 and will be gradually implemented. Production occurs after five to six years of planting, with annual production. The business brought together Zaffari, who is a trader in Porto Alegre, and Fioravanso, who is from a rural area. In 2018, the duo also plans to start growing olive trees. “This market is dominated by imports. From consumption, 94% comes from abroad”, say the entrepreneurs.

Governor José Ivo Sartori, who visited the park this Monday (6), spoke more than once about his intention to boost the cultivation of walnuts and lentils. “Israel is very interested in buying the product,” argued Sartori. In BRDE, resources were also released for the Sarandi Triticola cooperative (Cotrisal), which will have R$ 5.2 million to increase storage capacity. A further R$ 29.8 million could be released by the end of the year. The Stefanello family group in São Luiz Gonzaga contracted R$ 2.9 million for irrigation systems.
