The minister recalled the launch of the National Fertilizer Plan in March, which aims to reduce the country's long, medium and short term dependence on fertilizer imports. Brazil purchases 80% abroad as needed.

Montes highlighted the government's work in what he calls “fertilizer diplomacy”, when government action helped not to interrupt the supply of fertilizers or, at least, reduce the impact of embargoes on Russia, one of the main suppliers of the world market. of fertilizers.
“Fertilizer is a central element in the formation of prices for agricultural commodities. Restricting access to inputs means reduced productivity, lower supply, higher inflation and lower food security,” said the minister. “If Brazil stops producing, the world will go hungry”, concludes Montes.
