The Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, said that the government has been looking for alternatives to facilitate the flow of the country's milk production. As this sector is extremely fragmented, it ends up being harmed due to logistical difficulties resulting from the shutdowns caused by the coronavirus pandemic. .
“We are concerned about the milk people. We have more than a million small producers. Producers are very anxious”, said Cristina, during the release of a bulletin on the pandemic situation in the country, in a ceremony at Palácio do Planalto.
In an interview with the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, Tereza Cristina said that she has worked with the Ministry of Infrastructure to ensure that there are no stoppages in truck transport, which has suffered the consequences of the closure of restaurants, hotels, tire shops and mechanics, entire network installed along national roads.
Truck drivers are not talking about a strike or stoppage, but they feel the lack of infrastructure and support to continue providing services. The increase in demand for milk on supermarket shelves, with many people stocking up on the product, also makes it difficult to maintain supply.
