According to the manager of the Economic Department of the Famasul System (Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of MS), Adriana Mascarenhas, internal and external demand continues to be strong, causing the price of corn to remain high compared to last year. “Another factor is the reduction in productivity in the American harvest, making the Brazilian corn harvest stand out”, he claims.
According to data from Aprosoja/MS (Soy Producers Association), on August 23rd the harvest reached 71.3% of the planted area, being completed in Coxim, Pedro Gomes and Sonora. As a result, there is a greater supply of raw materials and a slight price reduction, according to the manager. “Even with the end of the harvest, we believe that the price should remain at this level”, he states.
Prices – On September 2, the price of a 60 kilo bag of corn was on average R$ 31.94. In this same period in 2015, the grain was being sold at R$ 20.80.
Internal and external demand grew and export volume increased, causing the price of corn to cost R$ 43.48 in April. “The demand for grain was so great that there was a lack of product on the domestic market. The harvest started and prices were falling, but it should be around R$ 30 per bag”, comments Adriana.
