Even with a 7.6% delay, soybean planting in MS reaches 45% of the area

Mesmo com 7,6% de atraso, plantio da soja em MS chega a 45% da área
The sowing of the 2016/2017 soybean harvest is 7.6% behind compared to the same period in the 2015/2016 cycle. This is due to the lack of rain, mainly in the northern region of the state, according to a survey by the Agribusiness Geographic Information System (Siga MS), by the Mato Grosso do Sul Soybean Producers Association (Aprosoja/MS).

Advancement by region

The data was released in Technical Circular No. 182, from Casa Rural, this Thursday (27). With the soil showing little moisture due to the lack of rainfall, many producers chose to postpone the start of planting. According to Aprosoja/MS, approximately 1.1 million hectares have been planted in Mato Grosso do Sul so far, which means that 45.4% of the state's crops have already been sown.

Also according to information gathered in the field by Siga MS technicians, it appears that the southern region of the state has an average percentage of more advanced planted area, around 56.5%. In this region, the municipality of Coronel Sapucaia has already finished sowing. Another five cities in the south of the state have already approached 80% of planted area.

In the northern region, however, only 24.7% of crops were sown. The municipalities of Alcinópolis, Camapuã and Paraíso das Águas have not yet started planting. The central region has 31.2% of planted area, with the municipality of Bandeirantes being the most advanced, with 40% of completed planting.

Estimates

To date, an estimated increase of 2.4% in the planted area in Mato Grosso do Sul, from 2.46 million hectares in the 2015/16 harvest, to 2.52 million hectares in the 2016/17 harvest. In addition, an increase of 2.4% in grain production is also projected, going from 7.601 million tons in the previous harvest to 7.787 million tons in this harvest. Productivity is expected to remain stable, at 51.5 sc/ha.
