In Brazil, the prices of soy showed some signs of recovery in some markets. The average in Rio Grande do Sul was R$ 57.50/bag, while the main markets remained at R$ 54.00. In the rest of the country, prices varied between R$ 37.00 and R$ 58.00/bag, with the CIF value at the ports of shipment reaching R$ 64.00/bag.
According to CEEMA, the area sown with corn The second crop was revised to 16.2 million hectares, one million less than expected. The main reduction came from the Center-West, where the area fell to 10.6 million hectares, approximately 800,000 hectares less.
In the latest weekly survey, Conab indicated that the harvest of the second Brazilian corn crop reached 79.6% of the sown area, against 47.9% in the same period last year. The harvest by state was as follows: Mato Grosso (97.7%), Tocantins (95%), Paraná (67%), Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul (62%), Piauí (56%), São Paulo (55%), Minas Gerais (47%) and Maranhão (44%).
In Mato Grosso, the average cost of corn was R$4,589.36 per hectare in June, an increase of 0.24% since May. June has an average price of R$35.99/bag, requiring production of 127.52 bags/ha to cover costs in the 2024/25 harvest, an increase of 6.13 bags/ha. Considering the average productivity of the last three years (110.8 bags/ha), the producer will only cover the operational costs of the season.
Second harvest: Recovery
In Paraná, as reported by Deral, 76% of the second-crop crops had been harvested by the end of last week. Of the remaining crops, 42% were in good condition, 36% in average condition and 22% in poor condition. The improvement in the weather after the heavy rains allowed the harvest to resume.
On the other hand, in Mato Grosso do Sul, the second crop harvest reached 49.6% of the area, surpassing the performance of the previous year. Of the crops not yet harvested, 39.5% were in good condition, 25.9% in regular condition and 34.6% in poor condition. The final harvest in the state is expected to total 11.4 million tons, reflecting a decrease of 19.2% compared to last year.
Additionally, according to Anec, in July, Brazil is expected to export 4.6 million tons of corn, compared to 5.9 million in the same month last year. In the first 15 business days of July, exports totaled 1.6 million tons, 47.6% below the same period last year.
