The insecticide Curbix 200 SC (Etiprole) was released for the control of the coffee borer (Hypothenemus hampei). The inclusion of the recommendation for the use of the product, manufactured by Bayer, was published in the Official Gazette of the Union on January 13, through Act No. 4 of the Department of Inspection of Agricultural Inputs, of the Secretariat of Agricultural Defense, of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (DFIA/SDA/Mapa).
Curbix 200 SC, a contact insecticide from the Phenylpyrazole group, was already registered in Brazil for the control of termites and leafhoppers in sugarcane and the rice root bug (Oryzophagus oryzae). This is an active ingredient different from the products currently used to control the coffee borer, which are Ciantraniliprole and Chlorantraniliprole + Abamectin.
According to the National Coffee Council (CNC), this is an “important achievement because it will allow the improvement of insect resistance management in coffee farming”. The entity was one of the biggest supporters of the approval of Etiprole, even managing to place Curbix 200 SC on the list of priority products for registration.
