Logistics compromises cotton deliveries for export

The National Association of Cotton Exporters expressed concern about the possible delay in
deliveries of cotton exports due to the delay in the start of the harvest, lack of trucks and lower
supply of containers. The concern also extends to deliveries to the domestic market.

“The Brazilian harvest is already, for the most part, commercialized, with shipping commitments for both
domestic market and for export. At that time, with the harvest delay and the problem of
availability of trucks, when the flow for shipments began to gain strength, demand accumulated.
Export contracts that were not performed in July had to be rolled over to August,
competing with the natural commitments of the period. The result was an overlap”, explained the president of
entity, Henrique Snitcovski. The situation worsens due to the reduction in vessel routes with less
imports and reduced availability of containers.
As an alternative, the Bahian Association of Cotton Producers articulates the resumption of exports through
port of Salvador and also a greater flow of cargo. “The costs of shipments are already being studied
through the capital of Bahia. Today, routes to Pakistan, Türkiye and Bangladesh are already in operation, and Abapa is
looking for lines to China and Singapore. This could be the solution to problems, not just in Bahia,
as well as Piauí and Maranhão”, said Júlio Busato, president of the Bahia Association of Food Producers.
