The partnership between US carbon recycling company LanzaTech and materials science company Dow has resulted in the launch of a new biodegradable surfactant in the home care market. Additionally, Dow designed EcoSense 2470 surfactant for a variety of home care applications using LanzaTech's CarbonSmart technology. From recycled carbon materials, there is the chance to manufacture the surfactant.
This biorecycling technology from LanzaTech works in a similar way to beer production. Patented bacteria consume carbon-rich pollution from steel factories and transform it into CarbonSmart chemicals like ethanol. Ethanol is transformed into ethylene oxide through an active process and, subsequently, ethylene oxide is used to manufacture surfactants.
“We have been active in the ethoxylates space for several years. Converting ethanol into surfactant ingredients. Now, our collaboration with Dow will allow us to expand our reach. Furthermore, this market was valued at US$ 19 billion in 2022, as highlighted by LanzaTech CEO Jennifer Holmgren on September 29.
“The ability to provide cleaning solutions made from recycled carbon is an influential factor in household consumers’ purchasing decisions,” said Farooq Alam, global strategic marketing director, Dow Home Care.
