Peanut Day is celebrated on September 13th, a sector that has been increasingly strengthening within the Brazilian market. According to research commissioned by the Brazilian Association of the Chocolate, Peanut and Candy Industry (Abicab) and carried out by the Kantar Institute*, from July 2020 to June 2021, the industry earned R$ 204 million with peanut snacks, which represents a growth of 13.8%, compared to July 2019 to June 2020. This growth was due to the increase of 16.1% in average spending on peanut products.

Another important factor is that the consumption of industrialized peanuts at home ended up gaining new homes in the last mobile year (July 2020 to June 2021), presenting a penetration of 11.4%, an increase of 8.6%, compared to the period of 2019 to 2020. This result is seen mainly in the metropolitan regions of Rio de Janeiro, followed by the three metropolitan regions in the Northeast, such as Recife, Fortaleza and Salvador. Currently, the main purchasing channels used by Brazilians are hypermarkets and supermarkets, in addition to impulse purchases originating in the workplace, college, vending machine, among others.
Peanuts are a versatile food and an ingredient for different types of products, in addition to being rich in several nutrients, which increasingly contributes to their consumption. “Peanut consumption in Brazil presents very positive numbers and excellent market performance, gaining more and more recognition for its quality and versatility. We believe that this is a market in which we still have a lot of room to grow, after all it is a food that is part of Brazil's regional culture and has great economic importance, locally and globally”, says Ubiracy Fonseca, president of the Brazilian Industry Association of Chocolates, Peanuts and Candies (Abicab).
