Sanctions against the Kremlin
Although the fertilizer sector has not been directly affected by sanctions against the Kremlin due to the attacks on Ukraine, the Brazilian market is anticipating a possible worsening of the crisis.
However, the Russian government intends to maintain quotas for exports of the input during the next planting of winter grains, scheduled for this autumn, and also during the sowing of spring grains next year, a Russian official said on Tuesday (5).
In November 2021, Russia decided to limit shipments of nitrogen fertilizers and the nitrogen-containing input complex, with quotas from December 1 to May 31. The measure, according to the Kremlin, aims to contain the increase in food prices, driven by the appreciation of gas.
