The second edition of the Family Agriculture Commercialization Center (Cecaf) Corn Festival exceeded all expectations. Last year 700 handfuls of corn were sold at the event. This year, rural producers who sell in Central sold 2,000 handfuls of corn, which is equivalent to 104 thousand ears.
Twenty producers participated directly in the event. Trajano is from the municipality of Alhandra, in the Metropolitan Region of João Pessoa, he was one of the traders who benefited from the Festival and is already organizing sales for the next edition. “I sold all my merchandise, even though I brought it in quantity, I still had to make four trips to meet the demand of all the customers. I sold more than 2,600 ears and I'm already preparing to bring the load in a bigger car next year”, explains the farmer.
In this edition, the event had special support from the Department of Education and Culture (Sedec), where children from five municipal schools held an exhibition with the strings produced in the classroom. The objective of the project was to promote local culture through literature and the students involved received ballots with local artists to exchange for products sold at the Festival.
“Sedec’s work was fundamental in this edition and it was wonderful to be able to see the children experiencing products from our culture up close, with a lot of dedication and joy”, highlights Rogeany Gonçalves, Cecaf coordinator.
In its second year, the Festival brought together a lot of music, crafts, xaxado performances, June square dancing, as well as an exhibition and presentation of strings. For Rogeany Gonçalves, the success of the event is due to the collective work that has been developed at the Center. “Sedurb has prioritized the promotion of Family Farming since the beginning of its management, in addition, it is important to highlight the work of those who carry out Cecaf, because the farmers prepared all year for the event to happen”, reiterates Rogeany.
The II Cecaf Corn Festival was organized by the Secretariat of Urban Development (Sedurb), in partnership with the João Pessoa Cultural Foundation (Funjope), the Secretariat of Public Policies for Women (SEPPM) and the Secretariat of Education and Culture ( Sedec).
