A group of around 30 producers from Roca Sales participated, last Thursday (13/07), in an afternoon of field work on the home garden and orchard. Organized by Emater/RS-Ascar, the event, held on the Locatelli family property, in the town of Linha Bento Gonçalves, addressed the importance of producing vegetables and fruits for self-consumption, as well as the adoption of techniques for cultivation without using of pesticides.
As a way of raising awareness among participants about the importance of this type of production, Emater/RS-Ascar extension worker, Leandra Bagatini, highlighted the importance of using fruits and vegetables in the family menu. ?In the case of fruits, in addition to contributing to satiety, they bring with them vitamins and minerals that have an influence on health, preventing diseases of the nervous, circulatory, digestive and bone systems?, he exemplified.
Next, it was the turn of Emater/RS-Ascar extension agents, Deoclesio Piccoli and Guilherme Miritz, who addressed food production, emphasizing the importance of choosing seedlings, preparing the soil and fertilizing, as well as pruning fruit trees. The management of pests and diseases without the use of pesticides was also highlighted by both.
During the pruning demonstration, Piccoli recalled the importance of choosing varieties for domestic production, also observing the methods of cultivation. “When choosing varieties for establishing a domestic orchard, care must be taken to ensure that those most resistant to disease are selected,” he highlighted. “In addition, the adoption of a diversified planting will also guarantee that there will be fruit all year round”, he added.
Miritz addressed the management of pests and diseases in vegetable gardens and orchards, always recommending alternative methods that exclude the use of chemical products in production. “A diversified orchard and vegetable garden tends to naturally reduce the incidence of pests and diseases,” he ponders. Even so, if it occurs, the extension agent remembers that there are several tools that can be used as control methods, including insect collection, the adoption of traps and the use of syrups and homemade preparations of an organic nature.
At the end of the activity, which is part of the Socioassistance Project and came from the demand of the farmers themselves who seek to cultivate and consume better quality fruits and vegetables, there was the sharing of some dishes prepared by the members using ingredients from their own gardens. and orchards.
