The president of Petrobras is Jean Paul Prates. He stated today, Monday (9), in Rio de Janeiro, that the war in the Middle East will cause an increase in the volatility of oil prices, as reported by “Agência Brasil”.
He emphasized that the decision on a possible adjustment in fuel prices in Brazil is subject to the increase in derivatives on the international scene. This decision depends on everyone's behavior, including gasoline and, especially, diesel.
He considered, however, that the pricing policy, which is not just Petrobras's, but the country's, could show, at this moment, that it has worked and reduce the effects of international price variations.
Pricing policy in wartime
“In war, there will probably be increased volatility. [There will be] very speculative variations on this and [the situation] will show how useful the current pricing policy is, at least at Petrobras, and how it is capable of mitigating these effects a little”, he told arrive to participate in an event organized by the Norwegian and Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Innovation Norway and the Norwegian consulate general, in Rio.
Prates also stated that Petrobras is not specifically preparing for this, but that there is not much more to be done than what the oil company has already been doing.
“No because we woke up this Monday with this process [the war]. We'll see. In fact, we don't have to do much more than we are already doing. Have the ability to monitor prices, especially diesel, and organize yourself accordingly. If there has to be an adjustment, we will make an adjustment”, he concluded.
