Strikes are scheduled for Monday (6) in Argentina's transport sector in protest against the Milei government's Basic Law.
Juan Carlos Schmid, deputy secretary of the Argentine Confederation of Transport Workers (CATT), confirmed the strike on Tuesday (30). The interruption of services will affect land, air, sea and port transport.
“On May 6, therefore, there will be assemblies in transport services against the tax on earnings,” the union leader told Radio El Destape.
Schmid detailed that the activities will begin in the early hours of the morning and continue until 11, “which will inevitably affect all services […] there will be conflict situations if the fiscal pact once again affects workers' pockets. If there are protests, transport will be stopped.”
This new strike comes after the union of workers in the Argentine soybean processing industry (SOEA) and other sectors ended, on the night of April 30, a strike that began on Monday (29).
Representatives of agro-export companies stated that they are gradually resuming agricultural exports, but the strike in the transport sector could harm them again.
Yesterday (1st), Labor Day, unions and associations in the South American country protested against the president's measures Javier Milei.
Furthermore, the CGT, the largest Argentine union, announced a strike next Thursday (9) to pressure parliamentarians to reverse the Basic Law.
