Deadline has been extended to February 28th.
In one of his first acts of government, President Lula signed Provisional Measure (MP) 1157/23, which extends the exemption from federal taxes on fuels, including imported fuels. The MP was published in the Official Gazette today (2). Exemption is the reduction of the tax burden on taxes.

The new MP keeps the PIS/Pasep and Cofins rates on diesel oil, biodiesel and natural gas at zero until December 31st of this year. For gasoline and alcohol, the exemption is extended for another 60 days, until February 28, 2023.
The measure also provides for exemption from PIS/Pasep and Cofins, until February 28, 2023, for aviation kerosene and natural gas for vehicles, including import transactions. The tax exemption was made by the Bolsonaro (PL) government due to the rise in fuel prices on the international market, valid until December 31, 2022.
According to senator Jean Paul Prates (PT-RN), appointed to preside over Petrobras, fuel taxes will later be resumed by the new government “but it will be in a much more comfortable way”, he declared.
