In a meeting held this Thursday (26) with the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, defended the strengthening of the biofuel chain. Fávaro reaffirmed his favorable position for increasing the mixture of biodiesel with diesel oil. Currently, the content is 12% (B12) and the government schedule establishes B13 in 2024, B14 in 2025 and B15 in 2026.
“In addition to sustainability issues, biofuels are green, renewable fuels that create jobs and opportunities to improve people’s lives. It is the great Brazilian solution that was created under President Lula's government and which will be strengthened with this partnership”, highlighted Fávaro.
At the meeting, the president of the Biodiesel Parliamentary Front, deputy Alceu Moreira, also participated. He emphasized the sector's objective: to establish a program that ensures predictability for the biodiesel industry. In effect, “We introduced a bill. It establishes the ten-year policy for sector planning and strategies for increasing biodiesel production in Brazil. The proposal ensures legal certainty and predictability. Alceu Moreira reported these points and added that the proposal includes a tracking system to guarantee the quality of the diesel sold at the pumps.”
The MME's national secretary of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels, Pietro Mendes, attended the meeting together with the head of the MME's Parliamentary Advisory, Raphael Ehlers, and the general coordinator of Sugar and Ethanol at Mapa, Cid Caldas.
