The phytopathology laboratory recorded the first case of Asian rust in soybeans in Rio Verde. The positive case was diagnosed in a commercial area and the grain was already in the filling stage. With the climate prone to the onset of the disease, the time is now for constant monitoring.
According to phytopathologist Hércules Campos, the indication of the presence of the fungus shows that the disease is present in the municipality. “This is an indication that Asian rust has arrived and as the harvest progresses it may spread faster,” he states.
The possibility of the disease appearing more frequently is now a fact and the recommendation is that producers who have younger soybeans pay attention. Another extremely important preventive measure is to carry out fungicide applications as soon as possible, respecting the recommended intervals. “A producer who does not use fungicides correctly could suffer damage, especially in soybeans that are in the productive phase,” says Campos.
