Total beef exports grew by 35% in volume in the month of May, compared to the result of 2018, the best result for a month recorded this year. In 2018, 111,502 tons of processed beef and in natureand, this year, the volume jumped to 150,216 tons. In terms of revenue, the result was slightly lower: in 2018 it reached US$ 462.9 million and in 2019 it reached US$ 573.7 million, an increase of 24%.
The information comes from the Brazilian Association of Refrigerators (ABRAFRIGO), which compiled the data provided by the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), through SECEX/DECEX.
According to ABRAFRIGO, in the year to date, beef exports in nature and processed already reach 694,314 tons compared to 590,013 tons handled in 2018 in the same period, a growth of 18%. Revenue rose from US$ 2.39 billion in 2018 to US$ 2.59 billion, an increase of 8%. This movement was mostly carried out by the Port of Santos (SP), which concentrated 63.5% of Brazilian beef exports, compared to 55% in the same period of 2018. São Francisco do Sul (SC) handled 8.1%; Paranaguá (PR) 11.4%; Itajaí (SC) 4.2% and Rio Grande (RS) 3.0%.
Although it bought more, China reduced its relative share in total exports until May 2019. In 2018, in imports carried out by Hong Kong and the mainland in the same period, the movement was 267,713 tons (45.4% of the total) in 2019 it reached 271,575 tons (39.2%) of the total. Egypt was the second largest buyer of Brazilian product with 60,687 tons in the year to May. Next came Iran with 41,746 tons; United Arab Emirates, with 40,714 tonnes, Chile, with 40,330 tonnes and Russia with 24,997 tonnes. In total, 95 countries increased their beef imports in nature and processed and another 53 reduced.
