The increase in beef exports boosted the price of beef forequarters at the beginning of 2019, which increased by 25% in São Paulo. The data was released by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) and published by CarneTec Brasil.
Given the circumstances, Brazilian fresh beef exports registered an increase of 4.7% in the year, up to the third week of April, reaching a total of 407.4 thousand tons in the reference period, according to data from the Secretariat of Commerce Exterior (Secex) compiled by Cepea. As a result, as demand has increased, prices also rise in an attempt to return more profits to the livestock farmer.
“Shipments of Brazilian beef have increased strongly mainly due to purchases from China, a country that is facing growth in demand for animal protein in the face of cases of African swine fever that have reduced local pork production”, indicated CarneTec.
The Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec) reported, at the beginning of April, that total Brazilian beef exports in the first quarter registered the highest volume for the period in 12 years. “In April until Wednesday (24), the price of beef forequarters in Greater SP rose from 7.2% to R$ 9.52/kg. The price of needle points also increases this year (+6.9%, at R$ 9.15/kg)”, he adds.
The price of beef hindquarters fell by 10.94% in 2019. In April, there was an increase of 1.3% in the price of hindquarters, to R$ 12.37/kg.
