Ukraine is a major grain producer and exporter.
Ukraine's grain exports for the 2022-23 season fell by almost 18% to 36.9 million tonnes on March 27 due to a smaller harvest and continued difficulties caused by Russia's invasion, Reuters reported, citing data from the Ministry of Agriculture. During the same period last year, Ukraine had exported 44.8 million tons of grain.

Exports so far in the July-June season have included 12.6 million tonnes of wheat, 21.7 million tonnes of corn and 2.27 million tonnes of barley. After a nearly six-month blockade caused by Russia's invasion on February 24, 2022, three Ukrainian Black Sea ports were able to restart shipments under an agreement brokered by the United Nations and Turkey. The Black Sea Grains Initiative was recently extended by 60 days, until May 18.
Ukraine is a major grain producer and exporter, with production expected to reach 53 million tonnes in 2022, down from a record 86 million tonnes in 2021. Government officials have said Ukraine could harvest 44.3 million tonnes of grain , including 16.6 million tons of wheat, in 2023.
Ukraine's grain exports for 2022-23 had fallen by 32% to 16.2 million tonnes, Reuters reported citing Agriculture Ministry data. The total included 6.3 million tons of wheat, 8.6 million tons of corn and 1.3 million tons of barley. The six-month blockade caused by Russia's invasion slowed exports. Three Ukrainian Black Sea ports began moving grain again in late July under a deal brokered by the United Nations and Turkey.
