Brazilian exports of fresh pork reached the highest volume in May in the entire Secex historical series, which began in 1997. Last month's shipments totaled 90.7 thousand tons, an increase of 44.1% compared to April's result and still 53.2% above the volume seen in May 2019.
According to Cepea employees, Chinese demand continued to be the main reason for the increase in Brazilian shipments of the protein. The greater quantity flown and the high exchange rate resulted in an average revenue obtained by the sector that was also a record, above R$ 1 billion for the first time in history.
In this way, fresh pork exports generated R$ 1.2 billion, an amount 50.7% greater than in April and more than double the revenue obtained in May 2019. It is worth highlighting that one of the factors that has favored the meat Brazilian pork in the international market is the presence of African Swine Fever (ASF) in several countries in Asia, Europe and Africa.
