The rise in Brazilian beef exports to the United States has been surprising the national livestock sector. Data from the Cepea newsletter indicates that the country is already the 3rd largest destination for Brazilian protein, behind only China and Hong Kong, surpassing the position that had been occupied by Chile.

According to Cepea researchers, in addition to some Brazilian slaughterhouses being authorized to export meat to the USA last year, the devalued Real against the dollar makes national meat quite competitive and attractive to North Americans. Another reason that may be driving demand from the United States to Brazil would be the low number of herds in Australia, a strong international player.
According to data from Secex, in June, Brazil sent 8.78 thousand tons of beef protein to the USA, 17.9% less than what was shipped in May – when, it is worth noting, sales to the country reached a monthly record of 10.7 thousand tons – but 18.2% above the quantity recorded in June last year (Secex). From January to June 2021, beef shipments to the United States totaled 42.48 thousand tons, a record, more than double the volume exported in the first half of 2020 (20.1 thousand tons) and well above the 16 .9 thousand tons from the same period in 2019.
