Comprising fresh products (whole chicken and cuts), processed and salted meat, the consolidated data from SECEX/ME regarding Brazilian chicken meat exports confirm that, after five consecutive months of positive results, the volume shipped in April faced a reduction in compared to the same month of the previous year.
The total exported in the month – 333,525 tons – represented a drop of almost 6% compared to April 2019, in addition to being around 3% below that recorded in the previous month (343,689 tons in March/20). In this case, however, it is worth remembering that, in addition to being a shorter month, April had two fewer working days than March. And this considered, the reduction observed in the month ended up reversing, in reality, in an increase of almost 7%.
After completing the first third of the year (January/April quarter), Brazilian chicken meat exports total 1.337 million tons, showing an expansion of just over 5% over the same period in 2019.
Taking this volume as a basis and taking into account that – on average over the last 20 years – chicken meat exports in the first four months corresponded to around 31% of the annual total (34% in the second four months and the remaining 35% in the fourth four months), it projects For 2020, a volume exceeding 4.3 million tons is expected, which would mean reaching the record held almost four years ago (close to 4.309 million tons in 2016).
Of course, we are living in an unprecedented moment and, as a result, projections of this kind do not have the slightest value. But it's worth a bet. Global demand and a favorable exchange rate light the way towards a new record.
