Beef exports from Brazil, the largest global exporter, grew 20.1% from January to July compared to the same period last year, to 982 thousand tons, with sales being driven by greater demand from China, it said on Tuesday the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec), based on government figures.
In the same period, export revenues totaled 3.73 billion dollars, an increase of 11.6%.
According to Abiec, sales volumes to China increased by 10.9%, reaching almost 175 thousand tons in the first seven months of 2019.
“The results are positive and are in line with projections for growth in Brazilian exports, made at the beginning of the year”, said the president of Abiec, Antônio Jorge Camardelli, in a statement.
China, hit by African swine fever, is dealing with a lower supply of pork, which has driven the import of more cuts of various proteins.
Abiec highlighted that July recorded the best monthly performance of beef exports in the year.
Last month's shipments closed at 155.65 thousand tons, an increase of 15.9% in relation to June's result. In revenue, the increase was 19.1%, totaling 615.15 million dollars.
