The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced through the country's Food Safety and Inspection service that it is reopening the market for Brazilian meat, according to the National Agricultural Society (SNA). The Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, stated that the initiative reinforces the value of the Brazilian product.
“This is news that we have been eagerly awaiting for some time. This brings recognition of the quality of Brazilian meat by a market as important as the American”, she said, remembering that Brazil has corrected the systemic problems that led to the suspension and is reestablishing the eligibility of fresh beef exports to the United States. .
For the director of the National Agricultural Society (SNA), Márcio Sette Fortes, the reopening of the market for Brazilian beef “is promising for certified Brazilian producers, even more so in a scenario of export remunerations based on a valued dollar” . Fortes considered the US decision “of extreme importance for Brazilian producers and for maintaining jobs in the sector”.
“It is inevitable that North American meat exports will be privileged, to the detriment of Brazilian products, especially given an expected global increase in North American agricultural products in China, by 2021, of the order of around US$ 30 billion”.
To conclude, he indicates that “Brazil is likely to lose a good part of the market share it had gained, especially considering China's authorization to import beef from the USA, from animals over two and a half years of age. . Authorization, it is worth remembering, from which Brazil does not benefit”.
