Supplies of anhydrous and hydrated ethanol were reduced in the state of São Paulo last week, due to the rains, which stopped sugarcane crushing. According to Cepea researchers, the resumption of processing was only observed at the end of the period, but still slowly. In this scenario, hydrous prices rose in the São Paulo spot market, after practically four weeks of decline.
Between May 22nd and 26th, the CEPEA/ESALQ Indicator for hydrated ethanol was R$ 1.3994/liter (without ICMS and without PIS/Cofins), an increase of 0.89% compared to the previous one. The CEPEA/ESALQ Indicator for anhydrous ethanol remained practically stable (-0.08%), at R$ 1.6119/liter (without PIS/Cofins) last week.
On the distributors' side, interest in purchasing ethanol was relatively low, which reflected in little volume traded. These demanders were alert to the possibility of a drop in prices, based on the proximity of the end of the month, when plants generally need to “make money”.
