With a new record for the month of August, 191,141 tons were handled in total beef exports (fresh + processed), according to information from the Brazilian Association of Meat Packers (ABRAFRIGO), which compiled data from the Ministry of Economy. Revenue reached US$ 753.2 million. This meant a growth of 19% compared to the same month in 2019, with its 160,938 tons and 14% in revenue, with US$ 658.6 million last year.
In the year to date, total beef exports have already reached 1 million 294 thousand tons, against 1 million 159 thousand tons until August 2019, an increase of 12% or 139 thousand tons more. Revenue reached US$ 5.4 billion, compared to US$ 4.4 billion in the same period in 2019, or a growth of 23%. In August, China imported 108 thousand tons of Brazilian product, a slight reduction compared to the 115 thousand tons moved in July.

Of the total exported by Brazil in the year to date, China alone is responsible for the movement of 62.4 % of sales, taking into account the product that enters through the mainland (530,458 tons) and that that enters through the city, State of Hong Kong (212,261 tons), with a total of 742,719 tons. In 2019, in the same period, China imported 448,021 tons and was responsible for 38%,6% of the total movement. ABRAFRIGO's forecast is that exports will be above this growth of 12% recorded until August in 2020, as the last months of the year historically tend to show growth in movement.
After China, Brazil's second largest customer was Egypt, with imports of 91,529 tons (-25.4%). Chile came in third place with 50,360 tons acquired (-34.2%), while Russia came in fourth with 43,177 tons (-4.6%). In fifth place came the United States, which increased its purchases to 34,502 tons (+39.7%); in sixth place are the Philippines, with 25,660 tons (+23.4%) and in seventh place are the United Arab Emirates, with 25,595 (-58.2%). In the case of most European Union member countries, there was a reduction in imports of Brazilian products. In total, 81 countries increased their purchases until August, while 87 decreased.
