Procolombia took advantage of the seventh edition of WTM Latin America to present its new director to the Brazilian market. Since last Monday (1) in office, Nicolás Casasfranco has had the mission of continuing the rapprochement between Colombia and Brazil. Last year, around 200 thousand Brazilians visited the neighboring country, representing an increase of 7% compared to 2017.
“Currently, Brazil is the third most important market for Tourism in Colombia, behind only the United States and Argentina, but the growth potential is immense. Brazilians and Colombians are very similar people, with very similar characteristics and ways of facing and enjoying life. Both have incredible diversity and know how to live in a light way”, commented Casasfranco.
Last year, more than four million foreigners visited Colombia, with the cities of Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena and San Andrés as their main destinations. Compared to 2017, the increase was 8% and, according to a study carried out by Amadeus, the number of reservations coming from abroad is expected to grow by 16% throughout the first half of 2019.
“Colombia continues to evolve as a country, with more economic stability and security, which ends up being reflected in the growth of Tourism. In January of this year alone, we had 56,000 people boarding ships from Cartagena, for example, while 380,000 cruisers took advantage of the city's port throughout 2018. By air, our routes with Brazil have an average occupancy of 80%” , celebrated the new director of Procolombia.
According to Nicolás Casasfranco, events in partnership with Braztoa will be held in cities such as Salvador and Florianópolis as a way of stimulating sales to Colombia as well as hubs such as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. This year, the country's international promotion campaign is called “Siente el Ritmo” (Feel the Rhythm, in Portuguese) and is focused on Colombia's musical and cultural richness and diversity.
